Diminished value basics

Diminished value is the loss in a vehicle’s market value after it has been in an accident—even after a complete, high-quality repair. A car with a recorded accident is worth less than an identical car without one. A diminished value claim seeks to recover that difference from the at-fault party’s insurer.

Generally, owners of vehicles that were damaged in an accident caused by another party. Eligibility depends on your state, the age and mileage of the vehicle, and fault. Our intake collects the details needed to assess this, and a specialist confirms whether your claim qualifies.

Our analysts prepare a market-based valuation using comparable sales data, your vehicle’s pre-loss condition and mileage, and the severity and type of damage (structural versus cosmetic). The result is a documented, defensible report carriers can review.

For vehicle owners

The guided intake takes about five minutes. You’ll provide your contact details, vehicle information, and a short summary of the accident. You can upload supporting documents if you have them, but they aren’t required to get started.

No. There is no upfront cost to start a claim. DVRecover and participating firms work on a success-based model, so fees only apply when value is recovered.

After you submit, your referring firm and the DVRecover team review the claim and typically share an initial valuation estimate within two business days. You’ll get a reference number to track your claim’s status.

For law firms

DVRecover acts as your outsourced diminished value claims department. Your team simply refers the client to us, and our specialists handle intake, valuation, demand preparation, and negotiation on the claim’s behalf. Your attorney stays informed and approves key decisions, with no new work for your staff.

Pricing is success-based—a percentage of recovered value with no setup fees or per-claim charges. Plans scale with your auto-claim volume. See the enrollment page for current tiers.

Most firms are onboarded and referring claims within a week. Every firm is paired with a named account manager who handles setup, training, and the referral process.

Confidentiality & trust

DVRecover handles all client information under strict confidentiality, with encrypted records and documented internal procedures. Access is limited to the specialists working your claim, and information is only shared with your referring firm.
